From March 2020 we have been working with Chinese government and key businesses in China to secure Northern Ireland’s PPE supply. We entrusted China Resources Pharmaceutical Commercial Group as the authorized purchaser of the Northern Ireland government in China to ensure the supply of sufficient personal protective equipment in Northern Ireland. A first batch of 55,000 masks and 33,000 pairs of gloves has arrived in Northern Ireland.
At the same time, Chinese government and our regional partners donated significant supplies of PPE to Northern Ireland, which demonstrated friendship and support for our joint battle against Covid-19. Our regional partners also facilitated knowledge exchange meetings to share their experience and advice. This helped us to prevent and control the epidemic.
Donation of masks from Liaoning and Anshan
During the trying times we received support from Chinese government and Chinese Consulate General in Belfast, some significant donations of masks from Liaoning Foreign Affairs Office, Anshan Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Leshan City and Hubei Normal University, and advice from the Second Hospital of Jilin University. Thanks to the efficient and professional work of China Resources Group and the pro-active coordination of the Confucius Institute at Ulster University, we got the work done. We appreciate all the efforts and support from Northern Ireland’s friends and partners.

We’re happy to see that according to the figures released by the Executive Office in June, the Covid-19 infection rate in Northern Ireland dropped to between 0.5-0.9. Moving forward it’s crucial to showcase everything Northern Ireland has to offer on a global scale as we’re rebuilding our economy following the shock of Covid-19.
Early this year First Minister Arlene Foster and deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill expressed support and solidarity with China in a CCTV video. They have also met with Consul General Madam Zhang a number of times to discuss the response to Covid-19, as well as economic and education cooperation.
